eFlow® SCF Has Been Renamed Trio™

March 1, 2009 - SourceCF® Inc., a subsidiary of Eurand Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has rebranded the eFlow® SCF electronic nebulizer under the brand name TRIO™, effective March 3, 2009. Only the name has changed, everything else remains the same.

According to SourceCF® Inc., the change to the name TRIO™ is intended to differentiate the current device from other devices using eFlow® Technology, that if approved, will be limited to use with a single medication. The TRIO™’s intended use is a handheld device that will be used by patients for whom physicians have prescribed medication for nebulization*. Future eFlow® Technology devices, if approved, will be “drug specific devices” and limited to the specific drug studied.

The brand name TRIO™ reflects the three distinct advantages – a trio of advantages – for many patients who use the device, as it:
reduces administration time by up to 50%**
reduces volume fill up by up to 50%**
supports freedom that results from not requiring an ‘external’ AC power source

Small, lightweight (9.5 ounces) and silent, the TRIO™ combines two key nebulization principles – a high percentage of the delivered dose within the respirable range and a high output rate – to significantly reduce nebulization times.¹´² To date, the eFlow® SCF, now known as TRIO™, has been prescribed by over 425 physicians for patients requiring nebulization.

Foundation Care, a member of the Respiratory Disease Network (RDN), will be notifying patients and physicians of the name change as they begin shipping new TRIO Nebulizers and new TRIO™ Aerosol Heads this month. TRIO™ Aerosol Heads can be used on an eFlow® SCF Nebulizer Handset.

*Intended Use: The eFlow® SCF/Trio™ is a handheld nebulizer that will be used with patients for whom doctors have prescribed medication for nebulization. The eFlow SCF/Trio is intended for adult and pediatric patients. The eFlow® SCF/Trio device has not undergone human clinical studies with any medication to establish the safety or efficacy of that drug/device combination. The FDA has not approved any combination of a medication with the eFlow® SCF/Trio device as a drug/device combination.
